Institute Welcomes Dr. Pinckney as New Director
Dr. James L. Pinckney became director of the University’s Belle W. Baruch Institute for Marine and Coastal Sciences on January 1. Dr. Pinckney, joined the USC faculty in 2005 as an associate professor of biology and marine sciences. He is well known to the Institute, having begun his research on microalgal communities in the North Inlet Estuary as a Ph.D. graduate student. Dr. Pinckney’s current research is largely focused on understanding anthropogenic effects on estuarine and coastal microalgal communities.
In addition to teaching and research, Dr. Pinckney has been an active participant in professional societies, has served scientific agencies as an ad hoc reviewer, and served on the editorial board of scientific journals. Dr. Pinckney holds B.S. and M.S. degrees from the College of Charleston, and Ph.D. degree from the University of South Carolina.
