Hello from Aynor High School

Hello from Aynor High School PO Box 128 Aynor, SC 29511 Hello from Aynor High School in Aynor, SC. We have been participating in the Estuary-Net program with Mr. Joe Parler’s Science Research and Environmental Studies classes. We are located in western Horry County, approximately 50 miles inland from Myrtle Beach, SC. Aynor is a rural, primarily agricultural community.

Our sampling site is located on the Little Pee Dee River at Galivant’s Ferry Landing, on Highway 501 near the border of Horry and Marion Counties, and is part of the Winyah Bay Watershed. The sampling site is a public boat landing with a concrete ramp. The area is heavily used and often polluted. We have done habitat assessments and identified many of the plants and animals in our sampling area. We have also been recording the types of pollution present in the area. Our sample collection will be ongoing throughout the school year.
